Recorded with just a laptop, extra live instruments and in Lockdown, the new collection of songs seamlessly transcends across 60\u2019s rock\u2019n\u2019roll, electronica, psychedelia and dark rock, with each genre being effortlessly fused with<strong>&nbsp;Ruiz!\u2019s<\/strong>&nbsp;take on life in modern times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The raw energy of&nbsp;<strong>Ruiz!<\/strong>, these recordings are elegant modern electronic pop music, home-made, DiY, Corona era, 2020. Quality is consistent. Compositions are smart. Hooks are contagious. Choruses are catchy. Songs about life, love and the modern maladies between men and women.&nbsp;<strong>Echoes of XTC, Beach Boys, Beatles, Buggles, The La\u2019s, The Blockheads, Air, Stone Roses, Stranglers, Kraftwerk, Killing Joke, Soft Cell, The The, OMD, New Order, Pet Shop Boys, Super Furry Animals, Pulp<\/strong>\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I started as the bass player in a little band called&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/sound_of_young_scotland\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Only Fruit<\/a>&nbsp;when I came to&nbsp;<strong>Sheffield&nbsp;<\/strong>as a student. This lasted for almost two years, and we did some cool gigs and recorded some ace demos I then joined a band called&nbsp;<strong>AFID&nbsp;<\/strong>that played around the&nbsp;<strong>UK&nbsp;<\/strong>including a BBC Session, and we were part of&nbsp;<strong>Sheffield Sound City<\/strong>. We did a couple of tours and then our frontman left to do sound for Pavement! Bolster followed, ex Bollweevils signed to Vinyl Solution. Three singles followed and a lot of fun packed touring.<br>The Better Ford Clinic was next \u2013 again lots of touring, recording and huge amount of silliness!&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/7aK29xJc2EdLH1mtg1Mqcv?si=EKfWzbKDS6iH9W4WxEVn_Q\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Jim Muir Slideshow<\/a>&nbsp;followed. We had a single of the week in the Guardian with a track called London. We recorded an album that received a lot of national and international acclaim including amazing reviews in Uncut, Q and the Sunday Times. We toured the&nbsp;<strong>UK&nbsp;<\/strong>and&nbsp;<strong>Spain<\/strong>. We released two EPS&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/album\/4lQw8Dt9fLNjolzh4xKtX1?si=iZ_eEECzSxWIlWJgz3JvxA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">obLONG 1&amp;2<\/a>&nbsp;\u2013 still available on iTunes, Spotify etc and were played on 6Music. We recorded at Club60 and with the legendary&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/oblongclub.bandcamp.com\/album\/ross-orton-sessions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ross Orton<\/a>. Colt \u2013 adventures in Rock\u2019n\u2019riot!&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/0ouPGwqBRyjKe0lwTYoz5g?si=-XEK_Z7OTVeeEnQXmPCWhQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Clear<\/a>&nbsp;is a band I got together, we got a publishing deal and recorded a great little album. And now&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/6yWoGhOJwXRg68OJ9euzOS?si=TFiT5ehhQFyxk--DXPnAEg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ruiz!<\/a>&nbsp;This is just me, on my own writing, recording, playing and singing everything. There\u2019s a first time for everything, right?
